Resilient Aspirational Courageous

PSHE Intent, Implementation and Impact

At Aldermoor Farm, we firmly believe that a meaningful personal, social, health and economic education curriculum is the key to children becoming confident, tolerant and well-rounded adults. We inspire our pupils to aspire to be healthy, safe and prepared for life and work in modern Britain. Our curriculum develops pupil’s aspirations so that they strive to be the best that they can be. The PSHE and RSE curriculum promotes curiosity and a love and thirst for learning. We raise pupil’s confidence and self-esteem and prepare children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. Our curriculum is carefully planned and adapted so that our students have the tools to become resilient, respectful, independent, responsible and confident members of the school community and society.

All pupils have a weekly PSHE lesson. We plan our lessons using 1Decision, which provides a broad, comprehensive education programme that enables class discussions. At the start of each academic year, the Protective Behaviours programme is delivered to all years to develop safety awareness and resilience building. RSE delivery is factual, sensitive and balanced using a question-based approach. Throughout our curriculum, we utilise resources from a range of sources including visitors from emergency services and NSPCC to provide extra opportunities to enhance pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, promoting our school’s values and celebrating achievement. We also have weekly Votes for Schools sessions which support British Values, SMSC and Prevent. The content of these reflects current affairs, the diverse society in which we live and topical issues. Children debate a key question and then have a chance to vote at the end of these sessions.

We aim for all of our children to leave Aldermoor Farm Primary equipped with the PSHE skills and knowledge that will enable them to be ready for the next phase of their learning journey and for life as an adult in the wider world. We use formative assessment in every PSHE lesson. It is used to inform further curriculum developments and ensure provision is adapted accordingly. Reviews in PSHE include discussions in pupil voice, evidence of sessions in floorbooks and pupil’s self-assessment.
