At Aldermoor Farm we want to instil a love of reading with all of our children. We believe it is essential to read a wide variety of books so that our children can enjoy reading.
World Book Day 2022
We had a fantastic time celebrating ‘World Book Day’ this year. There were with lots of brilliant ‘booky’ activities happening across school.
Year 4 and 5 took part in a Reading Cafe, where they were able to ‘taste’ different books.
Year R went to visit our local library, where they listened to stories and created music to accompany them.
We also held quizzes, designed front covers, created ‘Reading Rivers’ and bookmarks. We even had our very own ‘Masked Reader’ competition, which was a lot of fun.
Every class had time to enjoy a story, recorded for them by another teacher, while they enjoyed a hot chocolate.
The Siobhan Dowd Trust works to give young people the opportunity to read and enjoy literature. Aldermoor Farm has been lucky to be awarded a grant from the trust. Some of our children visited the Kenilworth bookshop and chose books for our school. They had a thoroughly good time and chose some great texts.
In the Autumn term, Key Stage 2 attended a virtual author event held by the writer of “The Diary of a Wimpy Kid” books, Jeff Kinney. Lots of us are fans of Jeff Kinney’s books at Aldermoor Farm and we loved hearing about the inspiration for these and learning to draw in the same style as him.
