Physical Education

Resilient Aspirational Courageous

Physical Education Intent, Implementation and Impact

At Aldermoor Farm Primary School, we aim for all children to leave our school with a lifelong love for physical activity.

Through offering a wide variety of sports, we aim to create children with the resilience and determination to achieve their full potential as sports people.

At our school, we use Physical Education lessonsto give children the tools and understanding required to make a positive impact in their own physical health and well-being. Weensure our children experience a wide variety of sports and physical skills, which will enhance life-long fitness and life choices. We use PE lessons to challenge and promote self-esteem through the development of physical confidence and problem solving.

PE is taught for 2 hours each week, covering two sporting disciplines every half term. We use Get Set for PE plans, which provides clear progression, cross curricular links and the physical, social, emotional and thinking whole child objectives. In some year groups, lessons are taught by a PE specialist teacher or sports coaches.

Children in Years 4 – 6 have regular swimming lessons taught by qualified swimming instructors.

All children are encouraged to participate in after school sport clubs such as athletics, football, tennis and rounders. They are also strongly encouraged to take part in competitive sporting events.

We aim for all of our children to leave Aldermoor Farm Primary School equipped with the PE skills and knowledge that will enable them to be ready for the next stage of their physical education and for life as an adult in the wider world.

The impact is measured by using base-line assessments at 3 different stages throughout the academic year. Any children who fall way below the expected standard for their age are targeted through intervention groups in order to close the gap.
