Riley Class

Welcome

Riley Class is the Enhanced Resource Provision based at the heart of Aldermoor Farm Primary School. We support children with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition / Complex Communication difficulty, supported by an Education Health and Care Plan.

Our provision supports pupils both academically and socially and emotionally. We work closely with the children and their families to foster positive relationships in a warm and nurturing environment.

This provision allows for specialist and targeted support to meet your child’s needs. Our aim is to provide a safe and secure learning environment in which children build healthy learning relationships to reach their full potential.

Riley class is an integral part of the school and children will have access to the facilities and opportunities that this provides. Children are assigned to a partner class across the mainstream provision and when staff feel the children are ready, they are able to access opportunities within the mainstream setting.

The Team

Mrs Fields – ERP Teacher

I am very proud to lead the ERP at Aldermoor Farm school. I joined Aldermoor Farm ERP in May 2023. I have varied careers within the British Army, NHS and currently as a Class Teacher.

I have worked within Mainstream and Specialist settings. Before joining Aldermoor Farm ERP I worked at Tiverton school, a broad spectrum special school. This specialist experience has enabled me to transfer skills to the Enhanced Resource Provision at Aldermoor Farm.

I thrive aiming to provide a safe, supportive and fully inclusive environment in which pupils overcome academic barriers to learning.

I have two boys, one in the Army and the other at University completing a Masters in Media production. I enjoy long walks with my rescue dog, Martha.

I look forward to working with yourself and your children.

Miss Ali – ERP HLTA

I have recently joined Aldermoor Farm ERP. I am excited to be joining this provision after working at Tiverton school for six years.

I am passionate about working with children with additional needs and hope to bring my extensive experience to the ERP to further support children from across Coventry. I specialise in complex communication and intensive interaction and ensuring that all children achieve their full potential and have full access to a broad curriculum offer.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and going to my favourite restaurant Nando’s.

Mrs Whitehouse – ERP TA

I have worked at Aldermoor Farm primary school since 2014 and I’ve worked in the ERP for the last eight years.

I am an enthusiastic teaching assistant with a passion for supporting children in all aspects of school life. During my time at Aldermoor Farm I have gained extensive knowledge of child development, teaching strategies and behaviour management and am able to identify individual pupils needs.

I am passionate about working with the children in our class and enjoy watching them grow and achieve. I want each and every one of them to have the opportunity to become the best that they can be.

My favourite thing to do my spare time is to walk my two little sausage dogs.

Miss Healy – ERP TA

I have worked at Aldermoor Farm since 2015 and joined the ERP team in September 2024.

I am a dedicated, passionate teaching assistant and pride myself on fostering strong, positive relationships with the children I work with. I thrive on providing tailored support to help each child meet their individual needs.

I believe that with the right inclusive environment and supportive approach, every child can achieve their potential.

In my spare time, I enjoy gardening and walking my chocolate labrador Nelly.

Our Curriculum

Riley Class provides four pathways of learning.

Our curriculum incorporates all aspects of EYFS, KS1 and KS2 National Curriculum.

Our curriculum offer has been modified to provide an opportunity for your child to learn at their current stage of development. Additionally, learning is closely matched to support targets formed within your child’s EHCP.

Your child’s academic progress is assessed against small step objectives which compliment the developmental stage your child is working within.

We work hard to bring all subjects together so that our children have a real understanding for how and why we learn. Preparing for independent living is at the forefront of our curriculum and we take great pride in offering our children real life experiences such as shopping when learning about Money or how to shop for a healthy meal.

In addition to this, we provide support towards advice from multi professionals that may work with your child to support their;

  • Language development – NHS Speech and Language Therapy
  • Communication and interaction skills – Coventry Complex Communication Team
  • Emotional support or co regulation – Coventry Social, Emotional, Mental Health and Learning Team
  • Physical development – NHS Occupational Therapy

As well as support possibly from

  • NHS RISE (Neurodevelopmental team, CAMHs and Primary Mental Health)
  • Coventry Educational Psychology

Our Transformation

Riley Class have recently undergone a transformation which provides a purposefully adapted learning space in which children now have access to learning zones providing opportunities for continuous provision. The classroom has been adapted to provide a low arousal environment with an incorporated sensory safe space children can use when time away from the main group learning is needed. We have a beautiful outdoor space in which our children understand the world around us through gardening, forest school and the opportunity to build physical and emotional competence. Within the classroom we have facilities to learn cooking skills with a child friendly kitchen area which looks home from home to promote independent living skills.

Our Day

Our timetable is highly predictable and structured to provide stability and reassurance. Children are supported with visual and musical cues to support transitions of learning and play. Our learning activities are carefully planned to match the child’s learning stage.

What will my day look like?

Soft start to the day where children have the opportunity to transition from home to school with choice time. This provides an opportunity for children to check in how they feel before starting the day.

  • Session one – Maths
  • Break
  • Session two – Phonics/ Literacy
  • Lunch
  • Playtime
  • Soft start to the afternoon to transition from lunch to learning
  • Session three – Reading
  • Session four – targeted stage related learning. This could be formal learning or learning against EHCP targets
  • Session Five – cross curricular learning or interventions

What our pupils say

I like to be in Riley class as I like to learn Maths and learn about numbers

I like to learn about everything and I like our new Riley class
