Throughout the school we teach whole class reading daily. Whole Class Reading focuses on developing fluent, confident readers with strong comprehension skills, fostering a lifelong love of literature.
Our Aldermoor Farm Reading spine lies at the heart of our whole class reading programme. Texts for this have been chosen based on evidence from the ‘Five Plagues of Reading’ in ‘Reading Reconsidered’ by DougLemov. These lessons have an inclusive approach ensuring that all children have access to age-appropriate texts and vocabulary. During whole class reading lessons, pupils follow along with their own individual copies of the text so that they can read along with their teacher: supporting reading fluency and vocabulary instruction.
Toaccompanyour reading spine, we also have a non-fiction reading spine. These texts are used, every three weeks, to ensure exposure to a wide range of text type and language. Texts in the non-fiction reading spine are linked carefully to aspects of the wider curriculum, where possible.
At Aldermoor Farm, we have designed our own programme for Whole Class Reading to specifically meet the needs of our learners.
